Originating from Sydney, Australia (and a fresh 47 years old), 2018 marks 30-years in the film & TV industry. I've lived in Sweden since 2013, before that Sydney for 12-years, and 10-years based in Hong Kong & Asia.
Fresh-faced Matthew GORMLY joined the Sydney film & TV industries in January 1988. Straight from high-school, Matt joined the newly conceived multi-skilling generation, learning all trades. Unusual for the era, Matt served both 35mm film and video production as an employee of sister companies Location Video & The Little Film Co. Runner & Best Boy on commercial sets one day, was swapped for sound recording current affairs walk-ins & corporate video the next, learning cameras & editing along the way. The goal from the beginning, to become a cameraman.
Night-time studies at TAFE's Film Production Techniques, and a second job collecting shopping trolleys at the local mall made for busy times. In 1990 Matt launched the partnership of Take Aim Productions, serving Sydney networks and corporate video, but was soon beckoned to Hong Kong.
Sound kit in hand Matt arrived in Hong Kong with a loose plan. Taking advantage of the scarcity of sound recordists in the region, Matt also served as best-boy & camera assistant. From high-end 35mm commercials, to corporate videos and television entertainment & sport, travelling across Asia.
