A one week assignment travelling from Gothenburg, Sweden to Santa Catarina, Brazil to feature truck driver Aldinan Cézar Rodrigues and the infamous Serra Do Rio (Road 020).
Transporting a hazardous load of aluminium sulphate, Aldinan hits an impasse with dangerous cracks in the mountainous road 020 blocking his way. Road 020 is a 12km strip of sharply hair-pinned reinforced concrete rising up to 1460m above sea level. Treacherous at the best of times, recent rains have damaged the road and Aldinan is forced to find a detour. As he detours, he tells us of his passion for trucking.
A three-day shoot, the assignment involved a tremendous amount of travel through unpaved countryside, as well as the lengthy travel time in and out of the region.
Crew included Matthew GORMLY on camera & sound, with a Sao Paolo-based drone crew, and Swedish stills photographer Nicke JOHANSSON sharing the space. Expertly Directed by Axel LINDQVIST with journalist Sujay DUTT’s Portuguese language skills, and excellent local support from Brazil Fixer’s Tomaz CAVALIERI.
Originated on Sony PMW-F5 kit with Sony A7iii & GoPro 6, and Sennheiser AVX wireless audio.
