When British cook Rachel Khoo needed a single-person camera crew at a moment’s notice, Matthew Gormly was enlisted. The result is a new eight-part cooking series for Discovery’s Food Network channel shot in Sweden. Executive produced by Rachel Khoo and UK-based Pete Lawrence, who also directed the show via Skype hook-up.
The extraordinary 10-day Corona-times production saw Khoo & Gormly take on the added workload due to the need to have an absolutely minimal crew on-set. Whilst Rachel covered her enormous responsibilities both in front and behind camera with a seemingly effortless aplomb, Matt helmed the three-camera shoot - catching sound, shooting stills, and getting the occasional time-lapse & drone away - all as a one-man band. A skeleton kitchen crew kept the production rolling in a timely manner, with all observing strict CV-19 protocols.
It was a fantastic production, with a great energy and vibe throughout. Originated on Sony PMW-F5, PXW-FS7, and Sony A7iii.
Rachel Khoo has written an insightful blog post on the process, and has some nice things to say about the Travmatt.TV service. Read the blog post here.
